The Struggle With Sin and Temptation

Paul tells us in Romans that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard. But have you ever thought about if there are times when you are more susceptible to sin and temptation than other times? When our guard needs to be at our highest. The truth is from Adam and Eve to the Kings like David, Jesus, the disciples, and believers everywhere there is a time when we are all at higher risk. After Jesus was tempted the Bible records that satan left until a more opportune time. So what or when is that time.

Mark 14 in the Garden of Gethsemane gives us a pretty good idea.

1. When we are tired. The disciples were struggling to even stay awake. When we are tired our guard is down so it can be easier to slip up.

2. When we are alone. Jesus had gone off to pray so they were alone. Accountability keeps us safe. The struggle with temptation is a lot harder when we are alone. Think about the last time we struggled with temptation when we were surrounded by other believers.

3. When it is late. 1 and 2 happen a lot late or in the middle of the night. Darkness though is a cover and can let our minds wander and even reason that no one will notice or that we can get away with something.

As we go through life we need to be on guard and we need to make sure we are even more alert during times of darkness, when we are tired, and/or alone. Stand Strong, Stand Firm and know that He who is in you is greater than the world.
